We also offer Organic Grassfed Beef. This beef is raised by good friends of ours Andrew and Marina Hartman. Andrew farms with his parents near Zurich Ontario and have been raising beef for over 20 years. When it comes to beef, they know how to grow them. Andrews parents have been organic for many year and they are now making the switch to grassfed organic beef. These calves are typically born in the spring and will nurse from their mother and eat grass in the summer and hay in the winter till they are a year old. They are then weaned the following spring and are sent back out to pasture. After the second year on pasture, the yearlings are then sorted. Any of the cattle that don't have the genetic's to finish on grass and need a little grain to help them finish are taken to the parents farm and sold on the regular organic market. The cattle that have the genetics to finish on grass and are nice and fat after the summer on grass, are taken to Andrews farm where they are finished on grass and hay. We only buy the cattle from Andrews Farm that are fed only grass and finished only on grass. The benefit to this system is that we get to choose from the best of the herd, and you can taste it.
